ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: |
| A
speaker for the NY State Council for the Humanities and recognized
authority on Eastern Woodland Tribes, David Oestreicher has spent a lifetime living
and working with the few remaining traditional elders of the Lenape
(Delaware) Indians, learning their language and recording their fascinating
stories and culture. In 2009, as part of the Hudson Quadricentennial, Dr. O curated an exhibition at
the Ellis Island Immigration Museum entitled "Lenape: Ellis Island's First Inhabitants." The exhibit, called "rich and groundbreaking" by Native Peoples Magazine, and "a signature event of the Quadricentennial" by DEC Commissioner Peter Grannis, met with wide acclaim from the media and the public, and received citations from Governor and Mrs. Paterson. |
